Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, salt, eggs, and the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle, about 10×15 inches.
- Distribute the cold butter cubes evenly over two-thirds of the dough. Fold the unbuttered third over the middle, then fold the remaining third over, like folding a letter.
- Roll out the dough again into a rectangle and repeat the folding process two more times. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
2. Make the Apple Filling
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until the apples are tender and the mixture thickens, about 10 minutes.
