Step-by-Step Instructions for Paula Deen’s 5-Minute Fudge
Step 1: Prepare Your Equipment
- Line a Pan:
Line an 8×8-inch baking dish or a similar-sized pan with parchment paper or foil, leaving some overhang for easy removal. Lightly grease the lining with butter or non-stick spray. - Set Up Your Ingredients:
Measure and prepare all your ingredients so they’re ready to go. The process moves quickly!
Step 2: Melt the Chocolate Mixture
- Combine Ingredients:
In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. - Stir Constantly:
Stir the mixture continuously with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula until the chocolate chips and butter are fully melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy. Be sure to keep the heat low to prevent burning.
Step 3: Add Flavor and Texture
- Incorporate Vanilla and Salt:
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. These enhance the flavor and balance the sweetness. - Add Nuts (Optional):
If using chopped nuts, fold them into the fudge mixture for added crunch and a nutty flavor.
Step 4: Transfer and Set
- Pour the Fudge:
Quickly pour the fudge mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it out evenly with a spatula. - Smooth the Surface:
Use the back of the spatula to smooth the surface for a polished look. - Chill:
Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until the fudge is firm and set.
Step 5: Slice and Serve
- Remove from Pan:
Lift the fudge out of the pan using the overhanging parchment or foil. - Cut into Squares:
Use a sharp knife to cut the fudge into bite-sized squares. Wipe the knife clean between cuts for neat edges. - Serve and Enjoy:
Arrange the fudge pieces on a serving platter or store them in an airtight container.
